| City owned public utilities and a supportive rural electric cooperative offer tremendous prices to large electrical users. Availability of energy is high, and though the city normally purchases packaged electricity through Northeast Power, we do have the capability to produce our own power as well. This gives Macon County tremendous negotiating ability and buying power, thus allowing the city of Macon and Macon County to pass savings along to its residents and business users. The city serves nearly 2,700 residential customers and 417 commercial users, supplying nearly 87,000,000 watts of power a year. In addition, the city also supplies natural gas, water and sewer services to its local customers. Macon Electric Cooperative serves 10,029 residential customers and 1,056 commercial and industrial customers using 257,000 kw of power a year. The City and County have outstanding rates to offer business and industry.
