Macon is flush with a variety of raw materials. Water is at the top of the list. A 2,450 acre Army Corp of Engineers lake on the north edge of the city supplies water to most communities in the county. Current usage of 600,000,000 gallons a year however, does not begin to touch its capacity with the ability for the city to produce an additional 1,500,000 gallons of treated or untreated water per day.

Agricultural products are also bountiful in Macon with over $55 million a year generated in gross income. The county has approximately 2,000 farmers who farm an average of 280 acres each. From these farms come over $10 million each year in soybeans, $6 million in hay, $3.8 million in corn, $2.6 million in wheat and $.5 million in sorghum. These farmers also raise over $30 million a year in cattle and $2.8 million in hogs.
