MACON COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT NEWS
A new city is named a DREAM community and it's right here in the Heartland: Macon is among the ten newest cities to receive Governor Blunt's DREAM Initiative. The initiative is to help rebuild, revitalize, and rejuvenate the downtowns.“Anytime you can improve anything that kind of snow balls and the more improvements you have the better off everybody becomes. And I think it will be very, very helpful to all the businesses that's located in the downtown area in trying to grow and prosper down there,” says Macon City Administrator Allan Muncy.
Muncy says he looks forward to the initiative bringing people into the downtown area. The city of Macon has applied for the funding since it was formed in 2006. Muncy says consistently applying for the grant over the three years shows they're proactive in improving the downtown.
Macon Technology Center: The City of Macon received a grant from the USDA (July 2008) to remodel the old YMCA building into a new technology center. This center will offer vocational and technical courses, as well as, college level Gen-Ed courses. Completion of the remodel and start of classes is scheduled for January 2009. Stay tuned for further information and course offerings.
Long Branch Lake Marina: The new convenience store and gas pumps will be available for the 2009 recreation season! The store will feature a soda fountain, ice cream, bagged ice and bait & tackle.
